Great Gatsby New Year's Eve Party - The 1920's Glitz and Glamour

Prohibition: What A Bummer!

When you think of New Year’s Eve, you certainly expect there to be plenty of drinks flowing and sweet concoctions of alcohol being made. Back in the 1920’s era however, prohibition was in full swing! The idea of eradicating alcohol from the masses simply made it much more delectably desirable. The story of The Great Gatsby shows the extremes of wealth and decadence during this time frame. Most of those who came into fortune were nouveau riche and acquired their wealth from the highly illegal bootlegging business.

The roaring 20’s was certainly a time of elusive secrecy that formed what is commonly known as the speakeasy. Here, flappers and gangsters mingled with rowdiness and indulged in the well coveted drinks of the time. In today’s day in age, we may have plenty of drinks but to get the true gaudiness of the 20’s, we have to go back in time!

Set the Stage

Start your celebration off with a great 20's backdrop that can truly capture the essence of a dimly lit speakeasy of the grand 1920’s. The great 20’s backdrop is a perfect way of starting things off with a bang. The backdrop is made out of a thin plastic material that can easily be hung with your choice of tape or thumbtacks. Simply choose the wall that you prefer the backdrop to be showcased on. To make things even more regal, use two backdrops to meet in the corner of a room to widen the spread of this theme. To give the backdrop a shine that would make any flapper jealous, get yourself some golden metallic garlands. Hang these garlands vertical and in line with the gold columns on the backdrop. These garlands quickly give the space a lift and make everything stand out to the onlooker.

In between the garland columns that were hung, use the pop, fizz, clink, streamers to add to the black space. Instead of stringing the streamer to lay horizontal, keep each letter of the streamer separate and attached vertically to the black space on your background. You want the words “Pop, clink, fizz” to be displayed in left to right order on your backdrop.

For the next part you will have to get a tad bit crafty. Get yourself some clear craft string and use it to suspend the “cheers” streamer from the ceiling and in the center of your set up. The clear craft string helps to give the items you hung a “floating” look. You will want to use the same method to hang the great 20’s silhouettes on both sides of your overall display. We chose to angle one couple under the “pop” and one couple to the right hand side of “clink.” Towards the bottom of the display, hang the jointed great 20’s roadster to pull the look together. This classic car is over four feet long so be sure to account for its size as you plan out the style of your display!

Head on Over to the Speakeasy

With a party theme that is set back in time when drinking was prohibited, you need to be a little naughty and serve up something cold and stiff! Bathtub gin was a common drink of the 20’s. Due to the prohibition, people resorted to making their own concoctions of homemade spirits with highly amateur hands. This left most drinks hard to swallow on their own without adding some fresh lemon and honey to sweeten your sips.

This is as close as you can get to recreate some 1920’s bathtub gin!

What you will need (Makes one serving):

2 Oz of Gin
.75 Oz of honey Syrup
.75 Oz of Fresh Lemon Juice

How to make:

Simply combine all three ingredients and then shake and strain into a chilled glass of your choice. To add some color to the drink, you can serve it with a lemon wedge or a lemon twist.
Half a lime
2 ounces London dry gin
Chilled club soda

Another drink that was popular at the time was the Gin Ricky garnished with a wedge of lime.

What you will need (Makes one serving):

How to make:

Fill a tall glass of your choice with ice. Next, squeeze as much juice as you can get from a half a lime into the glass of ice. Then fill the glass with gin and a club soda. This drink does not need a simple syrup but can be added based on drinker’s preference. Keep in mind however that this drink was not traditionally served with syrup included.Be careful with the lime when adding to the drink as well. If the drink comes out too green or cloudy, there was too much lime added making it stray from what an original Gin Rickey would have been.

Set The Table

With some decadent drinks to sip on, the display for these drinkable gems should be just as regal. Lay out a plastic white table cover in your choice of round or rectangular. Here we chose a rectangular table cover and laid the printed great 20’s table runner down the center. The table runner matches perfectly with the backdrop that was previously used, giving the room a tied together look. In the center of the table runner, use the great 20’s centerpiece to bring the setup to life. On both sides of the centerpiece, proudly display the drinks that were made for easy grabs from guests.

Back to the 80’s - A Totally Retro New Year’s Eve Celebration

Dude!! We have something for you this year! If you are still thinking about what to do for a New Year’s Eve party, I suggests going for a back to the 80’s themed celebration. These throwback parties are all the rage nowadays making it easy to take a step into the past and make your party one to go down in style with. All you need are some totally radical and oh so righteous party decor and favors!

The 80’s was a time known for its bold popping colors, wild styles, permed hair, and of course the music rolling out of the boom box being carried on someone’s shoulder. This all may be a part of days gone by, but the memories of this one of a kind time still lives on.

CREATE A BACKDROP

To create the overall theme of the party you are going to want to start with a themed backdrop and dress it up to your liking. Our brick wall backdrop is a great foundation to start with. Simply place this backdrop along a wall and secure with your choice of tape or thumbtacks. Street art and graffiti was a common trait for any brick wall in the 80’s. Dress your brick wall up with the 80’s graffiti props! These bold and colorful props are perfect for adding right on top of the backdrop in any location or position desired.

The 80’s graffiti props pair nicely with our awesome 80’s cutouts, back to the 80’s sign, and of course the 80’s hair band silhouettes! Try intermixing props, cutouts, and silhouettes for a bold and wild style that matches the era of the 80’s. The more color and funky shapes you can bring to the party the better! In the front of your backdrop hang the 80’s stringer. To get a wholesome effect, hang more than just one of these banners but be sure to space them out enough to still see the backdrop you decorated.

DECORATE THE TABLE

The backdrop and stringers that were used make a great transition into the seating for you event. Keep with the same theme of bright colors for this. Start by laying down the lime green table cover for a bold baseline to the table décor. Down the center of the table cover, use the printed party shapes table runner to break up some of the bright green but keep with the wild style we are reaching for.

DRESS THE PART

A Winter Wonderland New Year’s Eve - An Ice Crystal Paradise

New Years’ Eve falls right around the time of year that the outdoor temperatures hit their lowest and the presence of snow is usually seen. Capture the whimsical qualities of snow and ice crystals for New Year’s Eve this year with a winter wonderland celebration. If you have ever been lucky enough to catch the rays of the warm sun bounce off the surface of a freshly fallen snow, you know how magical this force of nature can be. No matter what climate you are in or where you plan on celebrating New Year’s Eve this year, that freshly fallen snow feel can be created anywhere with the right touch and perfect décor!

For this type of event you want your guests walking through the door to find themselves stepping into a crystal encrusted oasis that Jack Frost himself would be envious of. While the theme of the night is ice and snow, you want to keep things heated up and white hot in the décor department. Start with the seating for the guests. Use an all white table cover to give your party space a blank slate to dress up and add to. For this type of seating, stay away from using sharp angled, rectangular tables and instead opt for round tables. Our plastic round tablecover in white would be perfect for this! Along the edge of the table, add in some metallic table skirting in silver to help mask the legs of the tables and give them a finished look. DIY PAPER LANTERNS

What you will need:

Craft glue
Glitter color of your choice
Krylon crystal clear sealing spray
Trash bags or old newspaper

How to make:

Start by prepping your work space by laying down old newspaper or trash bags to keep messes contained and cleanup easy. Coat or spray one side of the lanterns with glue and lightly sprinkle glitter onto lantern directly after glue application. How much glitter you add is a personal choice. Let the glittered side of the lantern completely dry before repeating on the second side. Once the whole lantern is glittered, use sealing spray to lock in the glitter and keep it from falling off during use.

Having great décor alone won’t make your party memorable enough to keep people coming back year after year. For a night like New Year’s Eve, having some memorable party favors is a must. Party favors are a great way of getting each and every guests involved in the party atmosphere and leaves them with a tiny piece of the celebration to take home at the end of the night. Make your party favor table the focal point of the room. This will help draw people in and start the celebration off with an abundance of energy. Since the rest of the room is decked out with round tables, its best to use a rectangular table for the favors. The larger table helps to keep things clean and organized while being able to display enough supplies for everyone at the party.

To set this up, use our rectangular tablecover in white to cover your table and trim the edges with the metallic and tissue tassel garland. To bring the overall party space together opt for using the white tissue snowflakes in varying sizes to place throughout the venue space and along the edges of your metallic curtain. Mix the white snowflakes in with the dip-dyed snowflakes for a pop of soft blue coloring. On the top of your table you can opt to use some more of the faux sparkling snow that was used earlier if desired. The Artic Blue New Year’s Eve kit would fit perfectly into this themed event. Lay out the toppers, tiaras, horns, and beads for guests to take their pick from. If you are looking to add something a little extra special to the favors then opt for including the Glittered Snowflake Glasses.

Since the favor table is going to be the main focal point of the room, it can then be flipped to the toasting station later in the night. As the night grows older and the midnight hour draws closer, clean off what’s left of the party favors and set up the champagne for toasting to the to the New Year. Try to keep this table close to the dance floor for easy access to favors at the beginning of the night and a quick grab of champing at the end of the night. This year for New Year’s Eve throw a party people won’t be expecting. Take them away for the night with a magical start to the New Year in Paris France! You may be miles from being able to stand in front of the grandeur of the iconic Eiffel Tower but with the right touches and around the world décor. You can bring Paris France to anywhere you are having a New Year's Eve Party. The midnight hour of New Year’s Eve brings promises of luck and good fortune in the New Year. Deck your party out with drippings of gold to represent good fortune as well as dusky greys and brooding blacks to represent the midnight hour.

To start with, set the mood of the party with a hanging Insta- Mural.The Paris cityscape insta-mural is perfect for bringing Paris to your party space. Simply hang this along a wall and you have a fantastic photo opportunity as well as a great baseline for the theme of the celebration.

Next you are going to want to set your tabletops. Use a flat black tablecover to create the overall theme of the night sky throughout the party. The plastic rectangular table cover in black is the ideal solution for achieving this look. To cover the legs of these tables, use the plastic table skirting in black to match the tablecover. Down the center or your table, place the printed Eiffel tower table runner to break up the solid color of black and add some design. To set this up, use the same jet black, tablecover that was used for the guests seating to cover your table. This time set the Sequined Table Runner down the center of the pastry table to give the setup a unique touch. Above this table hang the Glittered Paris Streamer. The sparkle in the table runner as well as in the streamer will easily complement each other making your pastries stand out.

Traditional Crepes

Unless you are an experienced baker, French pastries can be hard sometimes to conquer. Stick to traditional recipes but keep things simple. Try out the well known and loved Crepe with some fresh berries, a spread of chocolate filling, and a dusting of white powdered sugar!

What you’ll need:

1 cup of all-purpose flour
2 large eggs,
1 tbsp. of sugar
¼ tsp kosher salt
1 ½ cup of whole milk
1 tbsp. of butter

How to make:

Grab a large mixing bowl and whisk together your flour, salt, eggs, and sugar, while slowly adding in the milk. You then want to let your batter stand at room temperature until its gets a little bubbly on top. This takes about 15-20 minutes.

Turn the stove top on medium heat and melt butter in a small skillet. Make sure to swirl your pan to coat thoroughly with the butter. Next, take your batter and drop evenly onto the pan adding ¼ cup of batter at a time. You will want to swirl the batter the same way you did with the butter to coat evenly.

The crepes only take about 2 minutes to cook, and then should be flipped to cook 1 minute more on their other side. Continue to repeat these steps until you have enough to serve your party! Another item that is fairly easy to make are chocolate truffles. These tiny treats are easy to pop into your moth in one bite and keeps people on the move all night without missing a beat out on the dance floor. These are great for those who crave something sweet but want to keep the dessert portion light.

Chocolate Truffles

What you’ll need:

3 cups of semisweet chocolate chips
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 tbsp of vanilla extract

How to make:

Start by melting your chocolate chips and milk in a microwave or a double boiler. Stir this mixture until smooth and add in the vanilla. Next you want to cover and refrigerate the mixture for about 2 hours or until its firm enough to roll.

Once chilled, the chocolate should be rolled into 1 inch balls and covered in coatings of your choice. This can be coco powder, chopped nuts, sprinkles, etc. This recipe makes approximately 4 dozen truffles. Flower and Leis Summer Getaway! - A Luau Adventure

The sun has finally come out from behind the clouds, the birds are chirping in the trees, and it seems that all things green have come out over night! With the cold winds and snow of winter behind us, summer is right around the corner. The warmer days mean people are coming out from indoors and spending time in the sunshine. Summer is also a prime time for vacationing and traveling. Many people love to escape to the tropical coast and unwind. This is a great time to put together a summer getaway celebration! Bring people together for your very own tropical escape and to kick summer off with a splash!

The first thing you are going to want to start with is setting the mood of the party. Depending on whereyou are located, you could be a good distance from the closest beach. Don’t worry though! Simply set up the luau sunset backdrop for a quick and easy summer sunset on a beach .Once the sunset backdrop is in place, layer the beach backdrop in to create the illusion of a large beach. Next use the tropical flower and bamboo walkway border to give the effect of sitting right on the warm beach sand. The combination of these backdrops and borders are perfect for creating an overall theme to your room and using as a photo opportunity. To take the theme of your luau at sunset to the next level, add in the palm tree props and the luau sunset props to your backdrop.

Next get your table tops set and ready for some guests to lounge at all night long. Start by using the luau tablecover as your base. This matches perfectly with the tropical flower and bamboo walkways boarder that was used previously. Down the middle of your table top use the printed luau table runner to add some embellishment. To keep the room from looking overly uniformed, alternate tables with the luau tablecover and the palm leaf tablecover. Down the middle of the palm leafe tablecover, sprinkle some parti-color silk ‘N petals to give a pop of color and to break up the solid color of green. Give each place seating a coconut cup to add to the tropical style and bring the ocean that much closer to where you are!

For your food station use the hibiscus plates, cups, and napkins to serve up delectable treats and finger food. Set the inflatable palm tree cooler at the end of the food line for guests to easily pick and choose from the drink selection. For food, try opting for delectable finger treats. Something that can easily be indulged in without much mess. A fan favorite is always scrumptious sliders and coconut cupcakes!

What you will need for the Hawaiian Burger Sliders:

1 can of unsweetened crushed pineapple
1 green onion, freshly chopped
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt-free seasoning blend
½ teaspoon pepper
1 pound ground turkey
½ pound uncooked chorizo or bulk spice pork sausage
2/3 cup ketchup
Hawaiian sweet rolls split
Lettuce leaves cut in half
Sliced tomato

How to make:

Your first step is to drain your pineapple keeping ½ cup of juice to the side. In a large bowl, mix together the pineapple, green onions, Worcestershire sauce and seasoning. Next add the turkey and chorizo. Mix these two items lightly but thoroughly. Shape into 12 ½ inch thick patties.

Once the patties are made, place them on a broiler pan and broil for 4 to 5 minutes on each side of until a thermometer reads 165°.

While the burgers are broiling mix together ketchup and reserved pineapple juice. Serve the burgers on rolls with lettuce, tomato, and ketchup mixture. Place the hibiscus picks through the top of the bun to help hold the sliders together and give them a pop of festivities! This recipe makes 12 servings. What you will need for the Coconut Cupcakes:

10 tablespoons (5 ounces) unsalted butter, very soft
1 cup (7 ounces) granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
2/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons coconut milk, divided
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or 1/2 teaspoon coconut extract)
1 cup shredded, sweetened, coconut, divided
1 1/4 cups (5 ounces) cake flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/4 cups (5 ounces) confectioners' sugar

How to make:

Heat oven to 350°F and position rack to the middle of the oven. Fill a 12 cup muffin pan with cupcake liners of your choice. Whisk together the butter, sugar, and salt in a large bowl until light and creamy. Then Whisk in eggs, one at a time, until they are all combined. Whisk in 2/3 cups of coconut milk, vanilla, and ½ of coconut.

After this is all completed add in the flour and baking powder to the bowl and whisk until combined. Spoon batter into the muffin pan and bake until just set. Baking should take 18 to 20 minutes. Once done, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pan for about 5 minutes. Then transfer to wire rack to cool completely before icing.

Icing- Stir confectioners’ sugar and remaining 2 tablespoons of the coconut milk in a bowl until smooth. Adjust with more sugar or milk to achieve a thick glaze consistency. If you desire, you can add a drop of vanilla or coconut flavoring. Once the cupcakes are completely cool, spoon the glaze over the cupcakes and sprinkling with coconut shavings. So New Year’s is rapidly approaching us. I know, you are thinking, “it’s only the beginning of September! I don’t have time to think about something that is four months away!” Before you know it though, it’s going to creep right up on you. Time is going to slip away and you are going to be left without an inkling of an idea of what theme, let alone what décor you plan to use for your party. Don’t stress! We have the perfect party theme for you! Ladies and gentleman, dig out those old bellbottoms and platform shoes because, the 70’s are here again!

The 1970’s was a time known for the disco fever. Your party guests will get feverish upon arriving at your epic hot, and trendy, 1970’s New Year’s Eve Party!
